The website of Upper Broughton, Melton Mowbray. Spring 2024
New websites
As some of you may be aware the three existing web sites associated with Upper Broughton: Village, Art show & History Group have recently been renewed and updated. Thanks to the UB Parish Council who provided some of the funding needed to arrange alternative hosting and migrate the sites to new platforms.
Anyone who wants to get involved and help out or has ideas for content etc let me know. I could do with some help in extracting the useful bits out of the WhatsApp chatter as many stories only live on that. SC.

Upper Broughtonite runs in London Marathon
Abby Cooper took part in the London Marathon in April 2024. Having sucessfully completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon last autumn Abby is set to double the distance and quadruple the effort.
Abby is looking to raise money for the Guide Dogs charity. She completed the 26 miles in 4:27:00 not a bad time for a first attempt and no walking!
My Grandparent’s support of Guide Dogs first began in 2011 when they rehomed their first retired guide dog, a golden Labrador, Clark. Grandpa adored Clark, so much so that he bought the famously known Clark Mobile (yes, a car!) dedicated for going on walks in the woods together. After Clark’s passing, the support continued when they adopted their second guide dog a black Labrador named Douglas. Unfortunately Douglas was not the best fit for my grandparents but he now enjoys a vibrant life with our friends where he enjoys boat trips at the coast and is a cherished figure for customers visiting their shop.
You can support Abby’s efforts and subscribe here, all donations will be much appreciated.
Old people eat their Lunch…
February saw the 30th annual running of the senior people’s lunch. A great time was had by all and the food was excellent. Thanks to the organisers.
2024 will see the 40th running of the Upper Broughton Art show.

In 1983 Upper Broughton Parish Council decided to purchase the Village Hall from the Church. It was in the most appalling condition and Parish Councillor George Harris agreed to form a Village Hall Committee to come up with ideas for raising money to try and improve the Hall. Chris Reeves suggested an exhibition of work by local artists might be a good fund-raising event. George Harris liked this idea and plans were made for a three day exhibition during the August bank holiday of 1983. Rushcliffe Community Arts Department donated £25 as prize money in the hope of attracting artists. This money was split into three prizes of £8 each with the spare £1 designated to help with expenses. Those were the days!
Tap & Run
The Second Innings
The Tap & Run pub in Upper Broughton is open again, after more than a year since the devastating fire of June 2022.
It’s good the see the pub reopen just in time for summer and from what we understand bookings are filling up quickly.
Owned by cricketers Harry Gurney & Stuart Broad. It may well have the strap line the second innings but we can’t help thinking The Ashes might have been more apposite…
Art Show 2023
The Upper Broughton Spring Art Show 2023 ran again in May 2023 and initial reviews indicate that it was another huge success.
